Community leaders from 19 communities in Totonicapán file petitions to improve health services

On October 30, 2026, in Totonicapán, REDC-SALUD and CEGSS, together with officials from the department’s 19 communities, presented to DDRISST officials, the Health District, and health clinic staff the findings, needs, and issues identified through citizen surveillance processes.

The reports cover the surveillance activities carried out in the communities of El Rancho, Pacorral Xecachelaj, Chuicacá, and Xebe Central, as well as at the CAP in Santa María Chiquimula.

During the meeting, proposals for improvement and requests to strengthen health care services were presented, with an emphasis on the care in the patient's native language, the supply of medications, the availability of medical supplies, and the hiring and availability of health care personnel.

This forum for dialogue is an exercise in citizen participation and advocacy, in which community leaders directly convey the needs of the population to the relevant institutions.

The presentation of these findings aims to foster commitments and follow up on community demands in order to help ensure dignified, accessible, and culturally appropriate health services.
