Visit by health advocates to CAP and CAIMI in Huehuetenango reveals challenges in the fight against dengue fever

On Tuesday, September 24 and Wednesday, September 25, 2024, REDCSALUD advocates from Tectitán and Cuilco, accompanied by the Network's Departmental Delegate and CEGSS staff, visited the Permanent Care Centers (CAP) in Tectitán and the CAIMI in Cuilco, in the department of Huehuetenango.

The visit, promoted by the advocates of these municipalities, was aimed at obtaining first-hand information on the dengue situation in the region. According to health personnel, five cases of dengue have been confirmed in Tectitán, and awareness campaigns are being carried out for the population to eliminate water containers in their homes as a preventive measure.

However, health personnel noted the lack of adequate resources and personnel to carry out key activities, such as malaria testing and fumigation campaigns, which are essential to curb the spread of dengue. These shortcomings will be brought to the attention of health authorities in order to advocate for attention to these urgent needs in the region.
