On September 28, 2026, in the departmental capital of Huehuetenango, REDC-SALUD and CEGSS held a meeting to analyze and prioritize the concerns identified in the citizen oversight report on the Huehuetenango Hospital.
During the meeting, the findings were reviewed, and the respective responsibilities of the hospital, the DRISS, and the central authorities of the MSPAS were identified, thereby strengthening the advocates’ capacity to carry out advocacy efforts.
Among the priorities highlighted were the linguistic rights and culturally appropriate care, by raising awareness among health care staff, identifying Maya-speaking workers, and recording the language spoken by patients.
In addition, a visit was made to the hospital to follow up on the institution’s response to the surveillance report. The legal counsel requested two additional weeks to submit the document and agreed to provide the submission date.
These actions aim to strengthen the monitoring of institutional commitments and promote health services that are more accessible, dignified, and respectful of the population’s cultural and linguistic diversity.
