Within the framework of the Citizen School for the Right to Health, the first virtual meeting of the training and accompaniment process in “Community Advocacy” was held with the youth of B'ok'o, Chimaltenango. This event brought together youth leaders from different towns in the department of Chimaltenango, as well as the CEGSS team, in order to bring young community leaders closer to the defense and promotion of human rights.
Young leaders from the municipalities of Chi Xot, San Juan Comalapa, San Martín Jilotepeque, Patzicía and Chimaltenango participated, who gathered with the objective of promoting critical thinking, recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples and community accompaniment. This effort is part of REDC-SALUD's strategy to expand its community work to other territories in the country.
The training and accompaniment process is designed to strengthen the recognition of youth as bearers of ancestral knowledge and knowledgeable about their rights, history and environment. In addition, it seeks to develop their skills to accompany their communities and to exercise and defend their rights in conjunction with the REDC-SALUD.
This meeting marks the beginning of a space for continuous training that will allow young people to strengthen their leadership and actively contribute to the construction of a more just and equitable society, respectful of human rights and the ancestral knowledge of indigenous peoples.
